The Art of Birthing is a national holistic experience that uses various forms of artistic expression to celebrate pregnancy, birth, motherhood, love, family, and creation. While we celebrate, we inform and inspire. With productions of visual, written, creative, spoken word, and performing arts our aim is to:

Raise funds to continue training Healthy Birth Ambassadors

Provide a unique space for dialogue and healing for birth professionals and families

Increase awareness about birth options, family choice, and empowered birth

Increase awareness about perinatal outcomes and disparities

Provide solutions for improving birth outcomes

Inspire others to see birth as a COMMUNITY experience rather than simply an individual one.

Why:
Most people are unaware that we have a childbirth crisis in our community. The United States is the only developed nation with a growing maternal mortality rate. Nearly one third of women give birth via major abdominal surgery. More than thirty percent of women report experiencing trauma while giving birth or report experiencing symptoms of postpartum depression. Too many of our babies don’t get to celebrate their first birthday, and unfortunately the black community experiences these poor outcomes in disproportionate numbers. The answers to many of these issues, and to eliminating perinatal disparities, lie within our community.
The Art of Birthing began as a way to engage the community in conversations about infant mortality. We have grown our efforts and now we use this as a time to engage the community in conversations about all things pregnancy including birth options, perinatal disparities, birth advocacy and most importantly solutions.

Who:
Sista Midwife Productions is an international birth advocacy organization based in New Orleans, LA with a mission to eliminate perinatal disparities and improve birth outcomes by increasing the numbers of black birth workers, teaching families about their rights and options, and creating transparency and accountability within childbirth education and the medical obstetrical system.
Sista Midwife Productions provides education, training, and consultations to birth workers and organizations that work with childbearing families and has provided training, consultation, and seminars for institutions and governments, at the local, regional, and national levels.
Since 2011 Sista Midwife Productions has engaged communities by hosting local and national educational and social events in order to increase the community’s knowledge and move them toward a new understanding of conception, pregnancy, birth, and parenting; ultimately shifting the narrative around birth culture and community values at large. In 2016 Sista Midwife Productions officially launched The Art of Birthing, our premier fundraising and edutainment event.
